A Thanksgiving-Eve Mash of News
This and that… stuff you might have missed and shouldn’t have… a Thanksgiving-Eve Mash for Borderstanis in the Dupont-Logan-U Street area.
One 14th Street Creperie Down. Plans for the creperie at the original Garden District store site on the northeast corner of 14th and S NW have been scrapped. I got a tip earlier this week that the sign was down and I confirmed it today. One less creperie to come for Logan Circle.
17th Street Work Starts Monday. Greater Greater Washington has wrap up of the Monday-night community meeting on the renovations planned by DDoT for 17th Street NW. Work begins Monday on the streetscape, long one of the main commercial districts in this part of Dupont. Starting time for the crews is 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
Biker “Bumped” on 15th Street. Ruth Sampson at City Paper’s Housing Complex blog has a posting, “Wheel Misfortune,” on a northbound biker getting “bumped” by a car while navigating the northbound 15th Street bike lane (in the heart of Borderstan), which is shared by cars and bikers alike (this was NOT the contraflow lane on the west side of the street). He was not hurt, fortunately.
Thorpe v Moulton in Shaw. I am almost always glad I wake up every morning in Borderstan (yes, Logan-Shaw-U Street area). This posting, Thorpe v Moulton, at the Other 35 Percent, gives me one more reason. I am familiar with this saga, but it still leaves me… glad I live in Borderstan.
Metro Robbers and Kick-in Burglars. Read “Today in Crime Trend Stories” at dcist for a couple of metro-area crime trends.
Restaurant Replacement on Connecticut. The Washington Business Journal reports that “a new Italian concept from BLT Steak will replace the just-shuttered California Pizza Kitchen at 1250 Connecticut Ave. NW.
Soda, Pop, Coke or Something Else? When you want a soft drink, do you ask for a soda, a pop or a Coke? Check out this map from 2002, which was making its way around Facebookland. It’s pretty interesting if you are into such geeky-cultural stuff. (I grew up in an area around St. Louis that says “soda” instead of “pop.”)
Bloomingdale No More. Imgoph, the blogger at bloomingdale (for now) called it quits. He moved out of the Bloomingdale area for more affordable quarters in Trinidad. He will be missed. I always like the motto on his blog: life in dc is weird. so am i.

Glad to hear it!
hey there, thanks for the shout-out, but i wouldn’t exactly call it quits—just moving on to other projects. there will be a trinidad-based blog soon, and in the meantime, i’ll guest post here and there on frozen tropics.
